Arco!
Arco, ID was the first city in the “free world” to be powered by atomic energy. So far a little lame since they don’t allow camping in the park. The KOA is $35! Grr. In other news, I rode over 88 miles today. I’m now 627 miles (or so) out of Eugene.

The Boise Debacle
At the border town of Nyssa, OR, In the late afternoon, I ate a meal of huckleberry yogurt, chocolate milk and a small pepperoni pizza. There was a big neighborhood BBQ going on in the park around me and I got some kind words about my bike and the usual wonderment from the eight and under set. Kids of the middling years, maybe 10 to 13 are universally suspicious at first. Their opinions are formed...

The rest of Oregon!
So I’m in prairie city tonight. Looks to be pretty rural from here out to the border, so I’ll likely be internet free for a couple days! Then the Boise boomtown…

All is well in Dayville
Perfect end to a trying day. Coming out of Mitchell was something- maybe the longest steady climb I’ve ever done. But the scenery paid off! I’ll post some pics after this (the tumblr app is generally all text, or one pic). So this evening I am staying at the Dayville Presbyterian Church. I’ve showered, done my laundry, caught up on bill paying, etc. Now I’m sitting on...

Day 6?
I’m already losing track. Last might i stayed in Mitchell, OR. I didn’t have phone service, so no updates until now - I’m standing at the top of Keyes Creek Pass, east of Mitchell. The climb was pretty intense. I don’t have a cycling computer to measure anything, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. MItchell is a great little town, if only because I was...

Sisters!
My god, Santiam Pass nearly kicked my ass, but I made it down. It was raining and hovering around 40 degrees the whole way up. This helped the cold I’ve been toying with for a couple days really gain a toehold. So, I’m taking a rest day! 2 days in! Lame! I need soup! Another thing I’ll be doing is shedding some cargo. The thing about traveling in a long haul is like the thing...
